At some point, the Sonoran Brass Quintet, which I was playing in, decided to try out rotary trumpets in the group. I borrowed a friends and it was a really nice playing Yamaha. Sound was nice and the intonation was better than most I had played. A few years later I saw a similar horn listed on trumpetherald.com. As it turns out, it was him listing the same horn. I bought it for $1500, a steal for a rotary trumpet. It’s not a Schagerl, Monke, or Thien, but it’s mine at a third of the cost. I use it in Huntsville on Brahms, Beethoven, and Mozart primarily. They are a little more slippery, but blend beautifully with the horns.
