Horn @ MTSU
The MTSU horn studio is made up of music majors including those with an emphasis in performance, education and music industry as well as music minors. The MTSU horns participate in horn ensemble, horn quartets and other chamber music including brass and woodwind quintets and in all ensembles on campus from the Band of Blue to Wind Ensemble and even Jazz Ensemble. Recent graduates of the MTSU horn studio have gone on to elite master's programs including the University of Michigan and the University of Missouri - Kansas City, attended prestigious summer festivals including Aspen, National Repertory Orchestra, Texas Music Festival, Sewanee Summer Music Festival and DCIs Cavaliers. A recent graduate also received a prestigious DeVos Institute of Arts Management internship at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. Active in performing in the musical community in and around Middle Tennessee, MTSU horn students have performed with the Nashville Symphony and been finalists in several orchestral auditions including the Evansville Symphony, Akron Symphony, Orchestra Kentucky and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra. Internationally, horns from MTSU have recently performed in Panama, China, Romania and England. Horns at MTSU have also been competitive amongst their peers, recently competing at the Southeast Regional Horn Workshop with a second place finish in the quartet competition and a first place in the high horn mock audition!
